What the cited sources add

The same work notes that Gorgonopsia was originally constituted of only Gorgonops.[2] Sigogneau-Russell considered G. torvus a rather specialised member of the group, contrary to earlier views.[3] G. whaitsi, originally the type species of Scymnognathus, is a more primitive form according to Sigogneau-Russell.[3] A large, incomplete skull from the Chiweta Beds of Nyassaland was tentatively referred to Gorgonops? dixeyi.[5]
