Warriors of Future

Warriors of Future (Chinese: 明日戰記; lit. 'Tomorrow's War') is a 2022 Hong Kong military science fiction action film. It marks the directorial debut of visual effects artist Ng Yuen-fai and stars Louis Koo, Sean Lau, and Carina Lau. Koo also executive produced the film, which was funded and distributed by his company, One Cool Group Limited.

The project spent three years in development before production began on 12 February 2017, with an initial release planned for 2019. After a lengthy delay, it opened the 46th Hong Kong International Film Festival on 15 August 2022 and was released theatrically in Hong Kong on 25 August 2022. At the time, it became the highest-grossing domestic film in Hong Kong, a record later surpassed by *A Guilty Conscience* in February 2023.

Set in 2055, the story follows a world devastated by war, advanced military robots, and environmental collapse. Pollution and global warming have ruined the atmosphere, causing widespread birth defects and death. Surviving cities are protected by large domes called Skynets. During construction of a Skynet over Sector B-16 (a futuristic Hong Kong), a meteor brings a giant alien plant named Pandora, which rapidly takes root and devastates the area. The plant grows explosively in rain but is later found to purify the polluted air. Military scientist Dr. Chan develops a method to alter Pandora’s genome, stopping its growth while preserving its air-cleansing ability.

Soldiers Tyler and Captain Johnson Cheng, part of the local Air Combat Unit (ACU), are tasked with finding Pandora’s pistil and delivering a “gene bullet” virus based on Dr. Chan’s technology. Colonel Tam oversees the operation but has a secret backup plan to bomb Pandora from the air, which would kill up to 160,000 civilians. Cheng opposes this sacrifice, and the team launches the mission during two approaching rainstorms, aiming to locate the pistil in the first storm and deliver the virus before the second.

Privates Connor and Lincoln join Tyler on the mission. They deploy military robots from an Orca transport aircraft to carry the gene bullet to the pistil. General Sean Li, commander of Sector B-16 and architect of the Skynet project, realizes neutralizing Pandora would lead to his domes being dismantled.
