Synopsis
In 2029, chemical elements such as oxygen, carbon, gold, molybdenum, and cobalt began disappearing from Earth, disrupting the environment and destroying homes, cities, and entire countries. Researchers discovered the vanishing elements drained into a planet called Nega Earth in another dimension. By 2089, element dematerialization was occurring rapidly, so the space colony government selected three special pre-teens to form the Element Hunters, who traveled to Nega Earth to battle monsters called QEXes and retrieve lost elements. Meanwhile, three average middle school students from Earth—Ren, Chiara, and Homi—banded together to also become Element Hunters, aided by Professor Aimee Carr and Juno.
Characters
Ren is an energetic 12-year-old middle-schooler born on October 9th who always looks for exciting adventures. He lacks patience for learning and prefers to meet challenges head on, but after becoming an Element Hunter he studied chemistry to better eliminate QEXes. Ren tends to act before thinking, yet his ingenuity has helped his team win various battles. His parents own a restaurant, and his grandfather had close ties to Professor Aimee Carr. Though elected vice-chairman to help Chiara, he often argues with her.
Chiara is a serious, intelligent 12-year-old girl born on April 8th who is best friends with Ren and Homi. Her motto is "I am the judge and the jury." She transferred to Ren's town three years before the storyline and became class chairman through dedication and hard work. Chiara and Ren met Homi while saving a stray dog named Sena during an element dematerialization episode. She lives with her laid-back father and usually handles household duties; her parents do not live together but are not divorced, and her mother visits. Chiara considers herself the leader of the Earth Team, which often puts her at odds with Ren, and she eventually shows feelings for Rodney.
Homi is an 11-year-old bookworm born on April 10th who was always alone until meeting Ren and Chiara. He has a cardiac disease and is not physically healthy, but he is the smartest member of the Earth Team and often acts as strategist. After saving his dog Sena, he befriended Ren and Chiara. Homi was adopted as a child by an elderly couple he now calls his grandparents; he used to catch butterflies with his grandfather before his death and now lives with his grandmother. After meeting Hannah, he learned both were man-made as part of a government project, and he considers Hannah his biological sister.
