This chaos stems from the 'Ange' device within Prism Tower, constructed by AZ and inadvertently activated by Team Flare's actions five years prior. While traditional Mega Stones require a bond to function, Rogue Mega Evolutions occur uncontrollably due to excessive Mega Energy emission. The player, recruited by Quasartico Inc.'s CEO Jett, must subdue these unstable entities in real-time boss battles similar to those in Legends: Arceus. The story reveals that the Legendary Pokémon Zygarde takes an interest in the player, while Lysandre, formerly thought dead, returns as 'L,' sharing an immortality curse with AZ. Ultimately, the device is destroyed by Mega Evolving Zygarde, ending the rogue threat and allowing AZ to pass away.

In Their Own Story

The conflict escalates when Ange malfunctions during a critical night, transforming Prism Tower into a gigantic monster threatening Lumiose City's destruction. AZ's Floette and the player's companion, Taunie or Urbain, attempt to shut down the device but fail. Amidst the debris, the player reaches Zygarde and, with aid from trainers met in the Z-A Royale tournament, Mega Evolves it to destroy the machine. Following this victory, the focus shifts to the 'Mega Dimension' expansion, where a young girl named Ansha brings Hoopa to Hotel Z. Her wish resonates with Hyperspace Lumiose, creating a distortion that reveals Darkrai and eventually Rayquaza. In these new dimensions, the player faces Rogue Mega Evolved versions of Mythical Pokémon, capturing them to stabilize the dimensional rifts while navigating the complex social web of the Rust Syndicate and Team MZ.
