Gameplay

Players could choose from four playable characters: Spelunker, Spelunkette, Dark Spelunker, and Spelunkette's Sister. The goal was to discover treasures and reach the end of each expedition area. The game featured 100 stages on a large world map divided into four sections of 25 levels each. Some stages occasionally became event stages, dropping unusual amounts of in-game currency or event items, including collaboration equipment based on other video game franchises. After selecting a stage, players navigated by walking, jumping, and using tools. Expeditions could be solo or in a six-player group online. A finite energy meter governed the character; complete depletion caused death. Energy could be replenished at checkpoints scattered through the cave. Deaths were easily triggered by traps, creatures, ghosts, or even falling from a slightly higher platform. Each level allowed two revives; a third death resulted in a game over screen, which could be bypassed by purchasing a continue with moon gems. In multiplayer, other players could revive a fallen teammate at the last checkpoint within 30 seconds, even after that player had used their own lives. Each cave was split into sections that had to be cleared in order, with no return to previous areas unless the level was restarted. Litho-orbs, found throughout levels alongside progression items like colored keys, were evaluated at the stage's end. The orbs were broken to reveal Litho-stone fragments; the yield was randomized, but no duplicate fragment was received until it was used or sold. A storage capacity of 999 slots was available for fragments.

Spelunker Party!

Spelunker Party! brought Spelunker World to Nintendo Switch and Windows, stripping out all free-to-play features. The lead character became Spelunkette, and the overworld was split into a world map plus five stage maps. All 100 original stages and new extras were included. Player lives increased to five, while multiplayer dropped from six to four, gaining split-screen offline play. Pooch returned for digging help, and Litho-stone fragments were tied to specific stages instead of random drops. Collaboration content was absent.
