Pepper Grinder follows Pepper, a peppy and adventurous girl who wields a super-powered drilling device called Grinder. After being shipwrecked and robbed of her treasure by mischievous Narlings, Pepper must use Grinder to reclaim what was stolen. The game's side-scrolling levels require players to drill through terrain, uncover hidden areas, and solve puzzles while fighting enemies. Pepper can also propel herself in the air using Grinder, enabling unique aerial maneuvers. Different drill bits must be swapped to overcome various challenges.

The game was developed by Ahr Ech, an independent studio based in Oregon. It draws inspiration from Namco's Dig Dug and the character movement of Sega's Ecco the Dolphin. The first trailer appeared on June 11, 2017, on Ahr Ech's YouTube channel. A collaboration with Devolver Digital was announced at the November 2022 Nintendo Indie World Showcase, with an initial 2023 release window. The game was delayed in August 2023 to an unknown date in 2024, and finally launched on March 28, 2024.
