Denshattack!
A train performs skateboarding tricks in a climate-ravaged Japan.
Denshattack! is a 3D platformer from 2026, created by the Spanish studio Undercoders and released by Fireshine Games. Players control Emi, a ramen delivery driver who navigates a near-future Japan ravaged by climate change. She joins a group of train drivers who compete to pull off tricks while racing their trains to their destinations. The game launched on 15 July 2026 for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S, and earned mostly positive reviews.
In the game, players guide a train through on-rail levels, aiming to perform as many tricks as possible. Trains can jump, switch tracks, and execute skateboarding-style moves like ollies and kickflips. Levels include speed runs, score attacks where chaining tricks yields high scores within a time limit, races against rivals, and boss battles. After each level, players receive a rank based on highest score, best completion time, and a set of unique challenges called "dares." Paint cans and gear collectibles found in levels let players buy different trains and decals, each with its own perks and weaknesses—such as doubled trick scores or better grinding maneuverability. Completing dares also adds sections to a fanzine written by a character named Fernando.
The story follows Emi, a train driver delivering ramen in a dystopian Japan where climate change has forced the wealthy into domed cities run by the megacorporation Miraido. Miraido also controls the high-speed VACTRAIN system connecting these cities. After meeting Fernando, an aspiring photographer, Emi gets drawn into the sport of Denshattack, where drivers compete to perform tricks. Fernando joins her quest to become the best, and he publishes a zine about the sport. As they travel across Japan, Emi and Fernando befriend other skilled Denshattackers, who help them fight Miraido's grip on the country. After defeating the Yoneda clan—a yakuza group loyal to Miraido—the team learns that Miraido is run by an AI construct on the Moon, controlled through the company's mascot, a robotic mole named Molty, who created the corporation's tyranny to dominate humanity. Emi beats the VACTRAIN in a decisive race, but Molty flees to the Moon. Emi and the other Denshattackers chase him there, destroying the AI and ending Miraido. However, Emi's train is wrecked, and she falls back to Earth, stranded in space.

Lore & Background
The story follows Emi, a train driver delivering ramen in a dystopian Japan where climate change has forced the remaining population into domed cities controlled by the megacorporation Miraido. Miraido also controls the high-speed VACTRAIN system connecting the domes. After meeting Fernando, an aspiring photographer, Emi becomes involved in the sport of Denshattack, where drivers compete to perform tricks. Fernando joins Emi on her quest to become the best, and also authors a zine covering the sport. As Emi and Fernando travel through Japan, they meet and bond with other gang leaders who are equally skilled Denshattackers, joining them to fight back against Miraido's control. After defeating the Yoneda clan, a yakuza dynasty following Miraido, the group discovers that Miraido is powered by an AI-driven construct on the Moon, controlled through the company's mascot, a robotic mole named Molty. Emi eventually beats the VACTRAIN in a decisive race, but Molty retreats to the Moon. Emi and the other Denshattackers give chase; she destroys the AI construct, stopping Miraido, but ends up stranded in space as her train is totalled. Some time later, Fernando and the others erect a statue in Emi's honor. Emi, now with a prosthetic right arm and one eye, runs a ramen joint where she and her friends spend time together.
Reader's Guide
Denshattack! was developed by Undercoders, an independent studio based in Barcelona, Spain. Director David Jaumandreu said the idea came from using a Japanese train toy and wondering if it could perform tricks like a skateboard. He described the concept as 'Tony Hawk but you're a train'. The game uses Unreal Engine 5, which Undercoders had experience with. Denshattack! was first announced on 19 August 2025 at Gamescom during its Opening Night Live. It was featured during an Indie World presentation on 3 March 2026, with an original release date of 17 June, later delayed to 15 July for further refinement. The game was a day-one release on Xbox Game Pass and GeForce Now. It received 'generally favorable' reviews on Metacritic, and OpenCritic indicated 96% of critics recommended it. Critics including IGN, Nintendo Life, and Shacknews compared it favorably to Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, Jet Set Radio, and Crazy Taxi.
