Jack Sparrow's Crew
A ragtag band of young outcasts sailing under a future captain.
Jack Sparrow's Crew, as depicted in the Pirates of the Caribbean: Jack Sparrow novels, is a shifting group of young adventurers and outcasts who gather around the adolescent Jack Sparrow before he becomes a pirate. They are primarily associated with the Barnacle, not the Black Pearl. The crew includes Fitzwilliam P. Dalton III, a young British aristocrat Jack nicknames "Fitzy"; Arabella Smith, a barmaid with a retentive memory; Jean Magliore, a thirteen-year-old boy from New Orleans; his sister Constance, turned into a cat by Tia Dalma; Tumen, a Mayan sold into slavery by pirates; and later Tim Hawk, a boy freed from Madame Minuit's control. Their loyalty is tested by supernatural threats like Captain Torrents, who controls storms, and Left Foot Louis, a notorious pirate with two left feet.

Lore & Background
The crew forms in the first novel when Jack, an adolescent stowaway with an unknown past, becomes captain of the Barnacle. Fitzwilliam P. Dalton III, tired of his rich lifestyle, joins and earns the nickname "Fitzy." Arabella Smith, raised by her drunkard father in Tortuga, brings her encyclopedia-like memory. Jean Magliore, a thirteen-year-old from New Orleans who spouts French phrases, joins with his sister Constance, later turned into a cat by Tia Dalma. Tumen, a Mayan sold into slavery by pirates, also joins. They face Captain Torrents, a vicious pirate with storm control, and Left Foot Louis, who kidnapped Arabella's mother and sought the Sword of Cortés. The crew expands when Tim Hawk, freed from Madame Minuit's control, joins. Billy Turner, later Bootstrap Bill, appears in Poseidon's Peak and is in love with Arabella.
Reader's Guide
Jack Sparrow commands the Barnacle as captain, though his authority is often challenged. The crew includes Fitzwilliam P. Dalton III ("Fitzy"), a British aristocrat; Arabella Smith, a barmaid with a retentive memory; Jean Magliore, a thirteen-year-old from New Orleans; his sister Constance, turned into a cat; Tumen, a Mayan sold into slavery; and later Tim Hawk. Their goals shift: surviving Captain Torrents, finding the Sword of Cortés, or evading Left Foot Louis. Loyalty is tested by Madame Minuit, a witch with power over snakes, and Mr. Silverback, a pirate with a crystal leg and tooth. Key allies include Tia Dalma, a voodoo priestess, and Billy Turner, who loves Arabella. Conflicts arise from supernatural foes and internal betrayal.
