Lore & Background
Blackbeard's connection to the supernatural is profound. He practices voodoo magic as a brujo and wields a sword that allows him to control ships at sea. His crew includes zombie officers, animated by his dark arts. Blackbeard seeks the Fountain of Youth because of a prophesied death by a one-legged man. He captures the mermaid Syrena to extract her tear, a required component for the Fountain's ritual. The crew also holds a missionary named Philip prisoner. Blackbeard's ship, the Queen Anne's Revenge, carries a collection of miniaturized ships in bottles, including the Black Pearl, which he captured from Hector Barbossa. After Blackbeard is stabbed by Barbossa with a poisoned sword, Barbossa claims Blackbeard's ship, crew, and sword for his own, returning to a life of piracy.
Reader's Guide
The hierarchy of Blackbeard's Crew places Blackbeard at the absolute apex, commanding through sheer terror and supernatural influence. Unlike other pirate captains who rely on coin or loyalty, Blackbeard rules via fear, often employing psychological warfare such as lighting fuses in his beard during battles. Their primary goal is to find the Fountain of Youth to avoid a prophesied death by a one-legged man. Key members include Angelica, Blackbeard's daughter and first mate; Scrum, a self-serving crew member; and Philip, a captured missionary. The crew also includes zombie officers. The crew captures the mermaid Syrena to extract her tear for the Fountain ritual. After Blackbeard is killed by Barbossa, Barbossa claims the Queen Anne's Revenge, its crew, and Blackbeard's sword, returning to a life of piracy. The crew's fate after that is unknown.
