Gameplay
Transport Fever 3 introduces a node-based map generation system that enables seamless biome transitions, such as swamps flowing into coastlines or deserts turning into canyons. Environments include tropical shores, sub-arctic tundras, deserts, and jungles. A day-night cycle with dynamic lighting and physical skies appears for the first time in the series. Players must choose between adapting routes to the landscape or terraforming, with significant landscape modification reducing local population satisfaction. The in-game map editor supports importing heightmaps or sculpting terrain from scratch. Road construction offers free-form shaping, custom intersections, and lane-specific traffic flow. Rail networks include line-specific train priorities and distinct track types. Trams can use dedicated tracks and operate underground. City growth is affected by negative externalities like traffic, noise, and pollution. Vehicle maintenance is dynamic, with neglect causing tangible consequences. Passenger satisfaction and city growth depend on travel time and comfort. The cargo system gives players full control over delivery chains using warehouses, industry boosters, and specialized loading stations. The economic model requires managing supply chains from small settlements to high-demand capital cities.
