Development
Life by You was the first game from Paradox Tectonic, a studio founded in March 2019. Development was led by Rod Humble, former Executive Vice President of EA Play and Head of The Sims Label. The game was teased on March 6, 2023, with a full trailer released on March 20, 2023. Its early access release was delayed three times: from September 12, 2023, to March 5, 2024, and finally to June 4, 2024. On June 17, 2024, Paradox announced the game's cancellation. CEO Fredrik Wester stated that the game would not meet expectations and that a satisfactory version was too far off. Paradox Tectonic was closed the following day. The company recorded a $19.2 million write-down on development costs, contributing to a 90% drop in profit for the second quarter of 2024.
