Drift
The mental link that lets two pilots share one Jaeger.
The Drift is the mental link that joins the minds of a Jaeger's co-pilots in Pacific Rim. A Jaeger's neural load is too much for a single pilot, so two or more pilots share it; while drifting they gain intimate knowledge of each other's memories and feelings and have no choice but to accept them.
Background
Raleigh and Yancy Becket pilot Gipsy Danger together until Yancy is killed, and Raleigh, traumatised by the death and by piloting alone, quits the program. In her first test with Raleigh, Mako Mori loses alignment while recalling the Kaiju attack in Tokyo that nearly killed her and almost fires Gipsy's plasma cannon inside the Shatterdome. Newton Geiszler drifts with a Kaiju brain, which is how he learns the Kaiju are alien bioweapons; in Pacific Rim Uprising his drifting with Kaiju brains lets the Precursors possess his mind.
