The Precursors
The alien makers of the Kaiju.
The Precursors are the alien race that created the Kaiju. In Pacific Rim, Newton Geiszler drifts with a Kaiju brain and learns that the Kaiju are bioweapons made to help colonize Earth; in Pacific Rim Uprising the Precursors possess Newt's mind through his drifting with Kaiju brains, and he becomes their emissary.
Background
Following their plan, Newt implants cloned Kaiju brains in Shao Industries' Jaeger drones and in the rogue Jaeger Obsidian Fury. The hijacked drones attack every Shatterdome and open breaches across the Pacific Rim, and three Kaiju, Hakuja, Shrikethorn and Raijin, reach Tokyo before Liwen Shao destroys the drones. The Precursors' real goal is to set off Mount Fuji with the Kaiju's reactive blood, so that every volcano on the Ring of Fire erupts and causes an extinction event. After the Mega-Kaiju is killed, Nate Lambert captures Newt, who warns that the Precursors will return; Jake Pentecost answers that humanity is preparing to take the fight to them.
