Pacific Rim Uprising is a 2018 American mecha monster action film and the sequel to Pacific Rim (2013). Directed by Steven S. DeKnight in his feature directorial debut, the film was written by DeKnight, Emily Carmichael, Kira Snyder, and T. S. Nowlin. Set ten years after the events of the first film, it follows Jake Pentecost, son of former Marshal Stacker Pentecost, as he returns to the Pan Pacific Defense Corps to confront a renewed Kaiju threat.

Lore & Background
Pacific Rim Uprising is set in 2035, a decade after the original film. The Jaeger Program has been revived under Senator Mako Mori, but is threatened by Shao Industries' drone program. Jake Pentecost, a former pilot turned black-market dealer, is recruited as an instructor after being caught with young Jaeger enthusiast Amara Namani. The plot involves a rogue Jaeger, Obsidian Fury, controlled by a Kaiju brain, and a scheme by the Precursors to use Kaiju-Jaeger hybrids to trigger a global extinction event via Mount Fuji.

Pacific Rim Uprising received mixed reviews from critics and was largely deemed inferior to the original film. With a gross of $291 million against a $150–176 million budget, it was considered a box-office disappointment.
