Carbon Dioxide (CO₂) is one of the most consequential gases in the Oxygen Not Included colony. Produced continuously by every Duplicant's respiration and by any act of combustion, it is the colony's most persistent waste stream. While toxic to Duplicants and a constant threat to their air supply, CO₂ is far from useless: it is a combustible fuel, a chemical reagent, and a building block for other compounds. Managing its accumulation is a core survival challenge from the earliest minutes of a new game.
