Lore & Background
Shriek's parents died before she was born, killed by the corruption and decay that spread across Niwen after the Spirit Willow passed away and its light shattered into five wisps. Earlier in the story, when Ori finds the young owl Ku in the Silent Woods, Shriek attacks them and leaves Ku in a coma. To bring Ku back, Ori gathers the five wisps, the Voice, Memory, Eyes, Strength and Heart of the Forest, and merges them into Seir.
Reader's Guide
Will of the Wisps gave Ori melee combat and replaced the first game's sequential upgrade trees with "shards" that are bought or found to modify Ori's stats and attacks. Reviewers singled out the boss fights and chase sequences for praise, though GamesRadar+ reviewer Austin Wood, who otherwise acclaimed the game, called its final level "slightly underwhelming".
Ori and Seir revive the Spirit Willow, but the tree says its time has passed and asks Ori to merge with the light to restore Niwen. As the Willow dies for good and Seir returns to Ori, Shriek appears and snatches the light. Ori defeats her, and Shriek goes back to the Silent Woods to die under the wings of her parents' petrified corpses. Ori then merges with Seir, healing Niwen and reviving Ku with her damaged wing restored.
