History

Llanberis F.C. traces its roots back to 1890. One of its founders was Dr. Robert Herbert Mills-Roberts, a former goalkeeper for Preston North End and Wales who qualified as a doctor in July 1887. Not long after, he became the head of Dinorwic Slate Quarry Hospital and helped establish the club. The team was called Llanberis United from the early 1900s until 1920.

In 1980, a sponsorship deal with the Snowdon Mountain Railway led to a new name: Locomotive Llanberis. After placing second in the Gwynedd League, the club moved up to the Welsh Alliance League in 1989. The original name, Llanberis F.C., was brought back in 2004. In April 2019, the club faced an uncertain future in the third tier because its pitch did not meet the Football Association of Wales’ updated size rules.

By the 2020–21 season, they had dropped to tier 4, joining the newly created North Wales Coast West Football League Premier Division. In 2024, the club ended a long trophy drought by winning the Snowdonia Fire and Security Cup, their first silverware since 2001. Over the years, the side has been known by several nicknames, including Llanber, Y Blac and Amber, Y Teigars, Locomotives, Y Loco, and Y Darans.
