Did You Know?
- The show featured nine contestants competing for prize money of up to 20 thousand New Zealand dollars.
- In the first seven rounds the money tree ranged from $50 to $2,000; the 8th round tripled the winnings.
- Three celebrity specials aired; one was sports-themed, and the second raised $9,600, the highest amount on the New Zealand version.
Reception and impact
The first episode drew 670,000 viewers, outperforming Holmes. The first two episodes each attracted over six hundred thousand viewers, nearly half the national television audience. I love that sort of thing of answering questions, pub quizzes, although I haven't entered that many of them. Television New Zealand newsreaders and reporters were barred from a celebrity special because bosses did not want their media staff appearing unintelligent to primetime viewers. New Zealand On Air reportedly found a new comedy for young adults, who were believed to be stunned by dumb answers. In 2001, Labour Cabinet Minister Lianne Dalziel used the show's catchphrase, telling National Party members, "You're all the weakest link. Goodbye."
