History
Prime Television launched a local version of the international show in 2008, with hosts Andrew Mulligan and Jason Reeves, and judges Miriama Smith, Paul Ellis, and Richard Driver. The top prize was NZ$100,000. The first episode aired on 8 September 2008. Despite good ratings, Prime did not renew the series due to costs. TVNZ acquired the rights, and season 2 premiered on TV One on 9 September 2012, hosted by Tāmati Coffey, with judges Rachel Hunter, Jason Kerrison, and Ali Campbell. Toyota became the foundation partner. A third series in 2013 saw Cris Judd replace Campbell. In 2014, TVNZ opted not to produce a fourth series, instead funding a local version of My Kitchen Rules. Since 2014, New Zealand contestants have appeared on Australia's Got Talent.
