1936-1939 Four-Peat Record
The Yankees' four straight World Series titles, 1936 to 1939.
From 1936 to 1939 the New York Yankees won four consecutive World Series, a run without precedent at the time. It began in the first year of the Joe DiMaggio era, under manager Joe McCarthy, who had been hired in 1931 after managing the Chicago Cubs and had brought the club back to the top of the American League. The 1939 team, one of the Yankee squads often named among the best in baseball history, won its title largely without Lou Gehrig, who took himself out of the lineup on May 2 of that season and retired because of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
