Before the game the Red Sox watched Miracle in the visitors' clubhouse, and the Yankees had Bucky Dent throw out the ceremonial first pitch. David Ortiz hit a two-run home run in the first inning off Kevin Brown, and Johnny Damon hit a grand slam off Javier Vázquez in the second and another home run in the fourth for six RBIs. Derek Lowe, on two days' rest, allowed one run on one hit in six innings and got the win.
