Lore & Background
The rivalry's origins trace back to the formation of the American Football League in 1960. The Jets and Giants did not play each other until a preseason game at the Yale Bowl on August 17, 1969. The first regular season meeting came in 1970, with the Giants winning 22–10. The Jets joined the Giants at Giants Stadium in 1984. The two teams have met in the regular season only 11 times since the 1970 merger. Since 2002, they meet every four years. They have never met in the playoffs. The Giants lead the overall series 8–7.
Reader's Guide
Since the teams play in different conferences, they only meet during the regular season once every four years, with home games rotating every eight years. Beginning with the 2021 season, an extra inter-conference game was created based on division rank and rotation. They also meet annually in the preseason. Since moving to MetLife Stadium, the preseason matchup has been called the 'Snoopy Bowl,' and a trophy called the MetLife Trophy or Snoopy Trophy was awarded to the winner during the 2010s.
