Background
The Saints came out firing with a 33-yard completion from Brees to Devery Henderson and a 30-yard John Carney field goal. The Patriots stormed back, converting twice on 4th-and-1, the second Laurence Maroney's 4-yard touchdown run, but Mike McKenzie intercepted Tom Brady to set up an 18-yard touchdown swing pass to Pierre Thomas, and Henderson then waltzed in on a 75-yard reception to make it 17–7. After a Stephen Gostkowski field goal, Brees hit Robert Meachem from 38 yards for 24–10, and Gostkowski missed from 50 to close the half.
