In Hitman: Contracts, players control protagonist Agent 47 from a third-person perspective, tasked with assassinating targets across the globe. The game encourages stealth and subterfuge but allows a violent approach. Context-sensitive actions and a 'Suspicion Meter' return, with disguises that can be seen through by guards under certain conditions.

Reader's Guide

The plot follows Agent 47 on 17 March 2004, two years after Silent Assassin, as he is shot and critically wounded in Paris. While recovering in his hotel room, he reflects on past contracts, including assassinations in Romania, Russia, England, the Netherlands, Hungary, and China. An ICA doctor performs emergency surgery, but GIGN officers storm the hotel. 47 escapes, kills the corrupt GIGN officer Albert Fournier, and reunites with handler Diana Burnwood, who warns that the ICA is being targeted by a group called the Franchise.
