Napoli clinched their first Serie A title in the 1986–87 season under manager Ottavio Bianchi, with Diego Maradona as the driving force. The team built a commanding lead through a strong autumn and winter, and despite a slight dip in form late in the season, they held off Juventus to secure the title with a 3–0 victory over Fiorentina on 10 May 1987, sparking wild celebrations across Naples.
