Black Stones, shortened to Blast, is the punk rock band at the heart of Nana, with Nana Osaki on vocals, Nobu on guitar, Shin on bass and Yasu on drums. Yasu and Ren Honjo started it in 1997 after quitting the band Brute, bringing in Nobu and Nana, and it played small venues in a coastal town in northern Japan.
Background
Ren left in 1999 to debut with Trapnest. After Nana and Nobu reached Tokyo in 2001, a flyer Hachi made led them to the young bassist Shin, and Yasu rejoined that April. Gaia Records first offered a temporary contract; once the press exposed Nana's relationship with Ren, the label hurried a full deal, and the band debuted on October 31, 2001 with the single Blast!, which entered the charts at number one.
