Artificial Condition is the second novella of The Murderbot Diaries, published on May 8, 2018, between All Systems Red and Rogue Protocol. Murderbot travels to the RaviHyral mining facility to find out why it went rogue and killed 57 humans. On the way it rides with a sarcastic research transport whose bot pilot it names ART.
Background
ART alters Murderbot's body so it can pass as an augmented human and disconnects the data port in its neck. To get onto RaviHyral, Murderbot signs on as a security consultant for three scientists who are trying to win back their research from their former employer, Tlacey Excavations. Their craft is sabotaged, but ART and Murderbot bring it down safely, and Murderbot realises Tlacey wants the scientists dead.
