Playing career
Alexandre Carrier started his major junior career with the Gatineau Olympiques in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League after they picked him fourth overall in the 2012 QMJHL draft. Known as a mobile, two-way defenseman, he had a breakout 2014–15 season that led to the Nashville Predators selecting him in the 2015 NHL draft. In his final QMJHL year, Carrier signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Predators on November 12, 2015. He played 57 games for Gatineau, tying his previous best with 12 goals and totaling 47 points, before the Olympiques fell to the Moncton Wildcats in the second round of the playoffs.
Carrier started the 2016–17 season in the American Hockey League with Nashville’s top affiliate, the Milwaukee Admirals. He led the Admirals’ defense in scoring and earned a spot in the 2017 AHL All-Star Game. He got his first NHL recall on January 13 and made his debut in a 1–0 loss to the Vancouver Canucks on January 21. After two scoreless games with Nashville, he returned to Milwaukee for the rest of the AHL season. Before the 2019–20 season, he was named an alternate captain for the Admirals.
After his entry-level deal ended, Carrier agreed to a three-year extension with the Predators in April 2020. He scored his first NHL goal in a 6–3 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning on March 13, 2021, during the pandemic-shortened season. He also made his Stanley Cup playoffs debut in Nashville’s first-round series against the Carolina Hurricanes, picking up two assists in six games. Carrier secured a full-time spot with the Predators for the 2021–22 season, recording 30 points in 77 games and being named to the NHL All-Rookie Team.
Injuries hampered his 2022–23 campaign. He was sidelined after a fight with Winnipeg Jets forward Logan Stanley on January 24, and upon returning, suffered a season-ending collarbone fracture. Despite these setbacks, the Predators re-signed him to a one-year extension on July 1.
