Elend Venture is the king of the Central Dominance and leader of the Luthadel Assembly in The Well of Ascension. A nobleman with a good heart who cares about the people, he is in love with Vin. After the collapse of the Final Empire, Elend claims the crown of the capital city, Luthadel, and attempts to restore order, but various hostile forces converge on the city. Three armies lay siege to Luthadel because of its rumored wealth of atium and political influence. The first army is led by Straff Venture – head of House Venture, and Elend's father.

Elend Venture begins as a nobleman seeking purpose within Scadrial's oppressive hierarchy. Though initially naive, his encounter with Kelsier sparks a revolution against the Lord Ruler. As King Elend, he struggles to unite the ash-covered world under a new government while facing threats from old loyalists and supernatural forces.

- Elend is deposed by the Assembly using the very laws he wrote, and Lord Penrod is elected king in his place.
- After being stabbed by a figure made of mist at the Well of Ascension, Elend is saved by Vin feeding him a bead of metal, which turns him into a Mistborn.
- Elend kills Jastes Lekal, his former best friend, for putting the city in danger after Jastes loses control of the koloss army.
