Background
Green was the second African American head coach of the modern NFL era, after Art Shell, and one of the winningest coaches of the 1990s, with a 97-62 record in Minnesota. His best team, in 1998, went 15-1 and set what was then the NFL record for points in a season, but it was upset by the Atlanta Falcons in the NFC Championship Game, and Green never reached a Super Bowl. The Vikings added him to their Ring of Honor after his death, in 2018.
