Background
On a mild day for a Minnesota December, the first quarter was scoreless before Fran Tarkenton threw a 29-yard touchdown pass to Jim Lash. In the third quarter the Rams drove from their own 1-yard line to the Vikings' 1, helped by a 73-yard pass to Harold Jackson, but a disputed illegal procedure penalty on guard Tom Mack pushed them back and linebacker Wally Hilgenberg intercepted a deflected pass in the end zone. The Vikings then went 15 plays and scored on Dave Osborn's 4-yard run. Jackson's 44-yard touchdown catch cut the lead to 14-10, but Minnesota got the ball back and kept it for the final 5:37.
