Background
Dallas was missing running back Calvin Hill and defensive tackle Bob Lilly through injury and managed only 152 yards of offense, while the Vikings intercepted four passes and recovered two fumbles in the second half. Minnesota led 10-0 at halftime after a Fred Cox field goal and an 86-yard drive finished by Chuck Foreman's 5-yard touchdown run. Golden Richards' 63-yard punt return touchdown pulled Dallas within three, but Fran Tarkenton answered with a 54-yard touchdown pass to John Gilliam. The two teams combined for ten turnovers in a ragged second half. A week earlier the Vikings had beaten Washington 27-20 in the divisional round.
