History
The Milwaukee Brewers first joined the Dominican Summer League in 1989, sharing a co-op team with Boston and Baltimore. The following year, they partnered solely with Toronto. Their first independent DSL squad ran from 1991 through 1993, after which they returned to co-ops with Houston in 1994 and 1995, then Chicago’s White Sox in 1996. From 1997 to 2003, the Brewers again fielded their own team. The 2000 edition fell to the DSL Dodgers in a five-game championship series. The 2001 club, led by manager Mike Guerrero, captured the title by beating the DSL Phillies in five games. Milwaukee left the league after 2003, not returning until 2009 alongside Baltimore. They operated a solo team from 2010 to 2016. In 2011, the DSL Brewers earned a wild card playoff spot but lost their first-round series to the DSL Orioles, two games to one. Starting in 2012, the team played at the Tower Complex in Ramón Santana. Built in 2006 and owned by former Brewers closer Salomón Torres, the facility had previously housed the Texas Rangers’ Dominican program. Between 2017 and 2019, Milwaukee partnered with Cleveland to run a second club. A planned co-op with Toronto for 2020 was scrapped when the pandemic canceled the season. Since 2021, the Brewers have fielded two DSL teams. After the 2023 season, they opened their own Dominican Republic Academy on a 30-acre site in Santo Domingo Este, featuring three full fields, an infield, a four-tunnel indoor batting cage, and classrooms. In 2025, the team names DSL Brewers 1 and DSL Brewers 2 were rebranded as DSL Brewers Blue and DSL Brewers Gold, after the team colors. The 2026 Brewers Gold squad won the Central Division title and qualified for the DSL Cup. They posted a 2–1 record in pool play, ending in a three-way tie with the DSL Mariners and DSL Giants Black, but only the Giants advanced because they held the higher overall seed—eighth versus the Brewers’ ninth.
