Offseason

The Marlins were sold to a group led by Derek Jeter and Bruce Sherman for $1.2 billion on October 2, 2017, the day after the 2017 season ended. Jeter stated he would measure success by more than the score, emphasizing fan experience and embracing Miami's culture. In December 2017, the team traded Dee Gordon and $1 million in international slot money to the Seattle Mariners for three minor leaguers. Two days later, Giancarlo Stanton and $30 million in contract relief were sent to the New York Yankees for Starlin Castro and two minor leaguers, a deal finalized on December 11. On December 19, Marcell Ozuna was traded to the St. Louis Cardinals for two minor leaguers. On January 25, 2018, Christian Yelich was traded to the Milwaukee Brewers for Lewis Brinson and three other minor leaguers. On August 15, starting pitcher Jose Ureña intentionally hit Ronald Acuña with a 98 MPH fastball on the elbow, leading to an ejection and benches-clearing controversy.
