Last updated

The men's doubles tennis event at the 1920 Summer Olympics was held from 16 to 24 August at the Beerschot Tennis Club. It was the sixth appearance of the event, with 22 pairs from 11 nations competing. Great Britain's Noel Turnbull and Max Woosnam won the gold medal, defeating Japan's Seiichiro Kashio and Ichiya Kumagae in the final.

Background

This was the sixth appearance of men's doubles tennis at the Summer Olympics, an event held at every Games where tennis was on the program from 1896 to 1924 and from 1988 onward, with a demonstration in 1968. The field was relatively weak and lacked top competitors, as the tournament coincided with the U.S. Championship, leading American players such as Bill Tilden and Bill Johnston to not enter. Belgium, Italy, Japan, Spain, and Switzerland made their debut in the event, while Great Britain made its fourth appearance, tying the absent Germany for the most among nations.
