The Bulge stands within the watershed of the Connecticut River, which drains into Long Island Sound in Connecticut. The southeast face of The Bulge drains into the headwaters of the West Branch of the Upper Ammonoosuc River, a tributary of the Connecticut River. The north face of The Bulge drains north, thence into the West Branch of Mill Brook, and into the Upper Ammonoosuc. The west face of The Bulge drains into Fox Brook, thence into Whipple Brook, Burnside Brook, Otter Brook, and the Israel River, another tributary of the Connecticut.

In Their Own Story

The snow had stopped an hour ago, but the forest still held its breath. Sergeant Calloway pressed his back against the stone wall of the village chapel, feeling the cold seep through his coat. Somewhere in the white murk beyond the trees, a Panzer engine growled—low, patient, getting closer. His radio crackled with a half-heard voice calling for a status report on the crossroads, then static. He pulled his M1 Garand across his chest and watched the tree line. A muzzle flash. Then another. The snow on the branches shook loose in slow, silent flakes. He exhaled a thin white line and whispered, 'Hold the road. Hold the goddamn road.' The forest swallowed the sound before it could travel ten yards.
