Atlantica Online

A turn-based MMORPG blending history, myth, and global exploration.

Atlantica Online

Atlantica Online is a free-to-play 3D tactical MMORPG created by NDOORS Corporation and currently run by Valofe. Its world is a fantasy alternate history Earth, mixing real historical settings with cultural, mythological, and allegorical elements. The game map mirrors actual geography, featuring locations on six continents, plus the mythical floating continent of Atlantis that gives the game its name.

Players take on the role of a descendant of the ancient Atlanteans, searching for their lost homeland to stop the destructive effects of Oriharukon—a substance the Atlanteans created. This journey spans the globe and crosses time, as players battle men, monsters, and machines corrupted by Oriharukon’s influence. The game emphasizes guild membership: guilds can own and customize towns like businesses, profiting from transactions within them. Up to ten guilds can unite as a Nation to wage war against other nations. Guilds and nations provide passive boosts, guild-specific dungeons, and Guild Crafting, where all members collaborate on a single craft. Players can also own personal houses.

Alongside the main quest, there are numerous side quests rich in lore, a complex skill system, deep crafting, and player housing. Characters and their mercenaries grow and unlock more powerful skills and equipment. As the level cap increased, developers added milestone quest lines that grant powerful class-specific talents upon completion. Players can recruit up to eight mercenaries, each gaining experience. Equipment options are limited, mostly class-specific armor sets and limited-time legendary items, but players can combine armor effects through an enchantment process.

Combat is turn-based. When a player and enemy meet on the map, both parties enter an instanced battle. Up to three groups can join each side. Characters are arranged on a 3x3 grid, using attacks and abilities to defeat opponents. Rewards include experience points, virtual currency, materials, and equipment. Player-versus-player combat uses the same system, with two leagues and daily, weekly, and monthly fights and championships.

The Tactical Battle System is a separate combat mode. Players and enemies move freely on a landscape, with new factors like cover, height differences, and movement speed, while some original mechanics are removed. These battles are story-based and objective-driven.

Lore & Background

Atlantica Online places players as descendants of the Atlantean people, tasked with searching for their ancestral home to save the world from the corrupting substance Oriharukon. The journey spans real-world locations such as Munich, Moscow, and Sapporo, alongside anachronistic civilizations like Rome in the Holy Roman Empire and an industrial-revolution-era North America featuring New York City—available from the North American launch on October 30, 2008. Players battle men, monsters, and machines corrupted by Oriharukon, recruiting up to eight mercenaries and engaging in turn-based combat on a 3x3 grid. The 'Rise of Atlantis' update, released in 2011, expanded the storyline and content.

Reader's Guide

The game emphasizes guild membership, allowing guilds to own and customize towns, profit from transactions, and unite into nations for war. Guilds offer passive boosts, dungeons, and collaborative crafting. A separate Tactical Battle System (TBS) adds free movement, cover, and height levels for story-driven missions. Major updates include the Troy Story Arc (August 2010) and the 'Rise of Atlantis' expansion (April–June 2013), which added the mythical Atlantis continent. The game received positive reception, winning the Golden Plume Award for Best Foreign Online Game at ChinaJoy 2008 and being selected for the GNGWC in 2008 and 2009.
