Development

The idea for Imperia Online was conceived in January 2005 by Dobroslav Dimitrov, who handled game design, and Moni Dochev, who handled coding. Realm 1 went live on August 23, 2005. In 2006, Version 2 and Version 3 realms launched simultaneously, offering alternative rules and gameplay. The game was translated into 12 languages with help from Community Managers chosen from the player base. The first Imperia Online tournament was held that year. Version 4 launched in 2008 as a prototype for Version 5, later receiving a visual upgrade called Version 4A. The first Nomad Invasions tournament was introduced in the V4 realms. Version 5, Age of Conquest, launched in 2010 with new visuals and the addition of a second playable race, the Nomads. The Nomad Invasions tournament and the first Imperia Online World Cup were held in 2011. In 2012, the first Tactical Realm and Mega Blitz realms were implemented, and V5 launched on iOS. Version 6, The Great People, launched in 2013 with a graphics and usability overhaul and the addition of Great People. V6 launched on iOS and Android in 2014 and was integrated with Facebook and other portals. In 2015, Imperia Online for Windows Phone was published, and the 10th Anniversary of the Nomad Invasions tournament was held.
