Taxi Driver is a 1976 neo-noir psychological drama directed by Martin Scorsese and written by Paul Schrader. In a decaying post-Vietnam New York City, Robert De Niro plays the taxi driver Travis Bickle, whose mind unravels on the night shift until he breaks down and turns vigilante.
Jodie Foster, Cybill Shepherd, Harvey Keitel, Peter Boyle and Albert Brooks, in his first feature role, co-star.

Background
Shooting began in the summer of 1975 on a low budget of $1.9 million, with actors taking pay cuts to get it made. Bernard Herrmann wrote the score, his last; he finished it hours before he died and the film is dedicated to him. Columbia released it on 8 February 1976. It was a critical and commercial success despite controversy over its violent climax and the casting of the 12-year-old Foster, won the Palme d'Or at Cannes and earned four Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture.
