Background
After years in development, the film was announced in September 2014 as Scorsese's project after Silence, and Pesci came out of unofficial retirement to take part after repeated requests. Filming ran from September 2017 to March 2018 in New York City and on Long Island, using a custom three-camera rig to support the digital de-ageing that made De Niro, Pacino and Pesci look younger.
