The Claw

Lore & Background

The Claw's reputation grew alongside the expansion of Malaz Island, becoming synonymous with the Empire's most desperate gambles. While other regiments fought for glory or duty, the Claw fought for survival and the preservation of the Imperial order itself. Their history is marked by campaigns across the continent, from the burning fields of the Seven Cities to the frozen wastes of Quon Tali. They served as the Emperor's personal instrument, a reminder that the Malazan Empire could project its will anywhere, at any time, regardless of the cost.

Reader's Guide

The Claw serves as the Malazan Empire's premier shock troopers, designed to operate independently or lead larger formations into the heart of enemy defenses. Their primary goal is the rapid resolution of conflicts through overwhelming force and psychological dominance. Membership in the Claw is exclusive, often drawn from veterans who have proven their worth in the most brutal theaters of war. They are not a traditional regiment but a fluid unit that adapts to the needs of the High Command, frequently operating under direct orders from the Fist or the Emperor himself. In the grand conflict of the Malazan universe, the Claw acts as the stabilizing force amidst chaos. Whether holding a crumbling line in Seven Cities or spearheading an invasion in Quon Tali, they are the Empire's answer to impossible odds. Their presence often dictates the outcome of battles before the first sword is drawn.
