New gameplay mechanics

Madden NFL 25 introduced the BOOM Tech Tackling System, a physics-based approach that factors in player weight, speed, momentum, and ratings to produce dynamic tackle outcomes, moving beyond predetermined animations. The Hit Stick was reloaded to emphasize timing and approach angle, rewarding precise execution with more impactful hits and a higher chance of causing fumbles.

Ball carriers can now brace for impact, stumble, and recover balance based on the defender's approach and their own attributes. Hundreds of enhanced skill moves, including jukes, spins, and hesitations, were added, along with a Setup State mechanic that allows chaining moves by holding the sprint button and using specific right-stick inputs. The kick meter was revamped into a multimeter with separate horizontal and vertical components for accuracy and power.

Reception

According to Metacritic, Madden NFL 25 received mixed or average reviews from critics. Will Borger of IGN wrote a positive review, stating the game is better than Madden NFL 24 and praising its on-field action and additions from College Football 25. However, Borger noted that the game's modes are functionally the same and that Franchise mode, while the best thing in the game, still needs help, describing the improvements as long overdue.
