Lore & Background
Haunted by the death of his family, Max drives the desert Outback scavenging for food and petrol with his dog. The Gyro Captain leads him to a working oil refinery whose settlers, led by Pappagallo, are attacked daily by a motorised gang under a masked man called Lord Humungus, who offers to spare their lives in exchange for their fuel.
Reader's Guide
Max brings the settlers a semi-truck to haul their tanker. During the escape he drives the tanker while the other settlers flee in a caravan of smaller vehicles after rigging the refinery to explode; Humungus collides head-on with the truck, killing Wez and himself, and the tanker turns out to be leaking sand, a diversion. The Gyro Captain succeeds Pappagallo as leader and takes the settlers north, and the grown Feral Kid recalls that he never saw 'the Road Warrior' again.
