Miller grew up in Woodbury, New Jersey and attended Bishop Eustace Preparatory School. He played youth soccer for a team based in Pittsgrove Township. He played college soccer at Northwestern University, making 77 appearances and setting a school record with 36 career shutouts. He majored in communications and minored in English, and interned with MLS club Chicago Fire, also training with the team. He played in the Premier Development League for Ocean City Nor'easters and Chicago Fire U-23. He was drafted by Seattle Sounders FC in 2015 but signed with German Regionalliga side SVN Zweibrücken, making 10 appearances. He later signed with USL club Seattle Sounders FC 2, then signed a first-team contract with the Sounders. He made his MLS debut in 2016. On December 12, 2017, Miller was selected by Los Angeles FC in the 2017 MLS Expansion Draft. He debuted for LAFC on March 4, 2018, against his former team Seattle Sounders, making seven saves in a 1–0 win. He played 33 matches for LAFC in their inaugural season, earning 10 shutouts. On January 16, 2020, LAFC traded Miller to Minnesota United FC. He underwent hip surgery in 2020 and missed the rest of the season. He returned as a starter in 2021 but was replaced in 2022 by Dayne St. Clair. On November 23, 2022, Miller signed with D.C. United as a free agent. He became their starting goalkeeper and was selected for the 2023 MLS All-Star Game. In August 2023, he suffered a torn rotator cuff and underwent season-ending shoulder surgery. D.C. United declined his contract option after the 2024 season. On April 1, 2025, he joined English League Two side Notts County on a deal until the end of the season. On May 20, 2025, Notts County said he would be released in June. On August 13, 2025, he joined League One side Bolton Wanderers on a deal until the end of the season. On January 20, 2026, he returned to the United States, signing with Charlotte on a two-and-a-half-year deal for an undisclosed fee. Miller represented the United States at the under-23 level and was called up to the senior national team in January 2019. He was named to the U.S. roster for the 2019 CONCACAF Gold Cup.
