Just Dance Dance-Off
Two dancers, one song, no mercy — the higher score takes the floor.
Dance-Off is a competitive two-player mode found across multiple entries in Ubisoft's Just Dance franchise. Rather than simply dancing to a song for a personal score, two players face head-to-head on the same track, each performing the choreography and competing for the higher final score. It transforms the franchise's otherwise experience-driven, party-focused gameplay into a direct contest of rhythm, accuracy, and stamina.
The mode has appeared in various forms across the series, typically as a quick-pick option on the main menu or as part of a multi-song best-of series. It is designed for local play, making it a staple of living-room gatherings where two friends settle who truly nailed the routine.

Lore & Background
In the world of Just Dance, the dance floor is democratic: anyone can step up, groove to a chart-topping hit, and feel the beat in their bones. Dance-Off introduces the one element the open floor lacks — a rival. Two dancers lock eyes across the neon-lit stage, each knowing the other will perform the exact same choreography moments later. The crowd (or the living-room couch) holds its breath.
The mode leans into the franchise's celebration of movement and self-expression while adding a layer of friendly rivalry. There is no character select, no narrative dialogue, no cutscene. The competition is purely physical and rhythmic: who hits the stars more cleanly, who sustains the combo, who recovers from a missed step. The choreography is identical, so the only variable is the dancer.
Across the series, Dance-Off has served as the franchise's answer to the 'one more round' energy of a party. It is short, immediate, and easy to explain to a guest who has never played a rhythm game. The mode's simplicity is its strength: no menus to learn beyond picking a song, no character stats to balance, just two people and a beat.
Reader's Guide
Select Dance-Off from the main menu or mode list. Two local players are required. Choose a song from the available tracklist; both players will perform the same choreography.
Player 1 dances the full song first, following the on-screen dancer and earning stars for each correctly timed move. The score builds from accuracy, combo length, and star hits. Once Player 1 finishes, Player 2 performs the identical routine under the same conditions.
The player with the higher final score wins the round. In some entries, a best-of-three or best-of-five format is available, where the mode cycles through multiple songs and the overall winner is determined by total rounds won. There is no character stat, power-up, or difficulty modifier — the only variable is the dancer's own performance.
This differs from standard single-player song play, where the goal is simply to enjoy the choreography and chase a personal high score. Dance-Off reframes that same performance as a direct comparison, making every missed star and broken combo feel like a point conceded to the opponent.
