Lore & Background

The game was announced at Ubisoft's E3 2013 press event and released for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii, and Wii U on 9 October 2013, and for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One as a launch title on 15 November and 22 November 2013 respectively. It introduced expanded second screen support for Wii U and Xbox platforms, the ability to record and share video clips of gameplay on supported platforms, and online multiplayer through the 'World Dance Floor' mode.

In Their Own Story

The neon lights of the virtual stage flicker into life as the opening beat drops. A group of Just Dancers strikes a pose, their movements crisp and synchronized against a backdrop of shifting geometric patterns. As the music swells, the camera pans to the viewer, inviting them to step onto the floor, mirror the moves, and become part of the rhythm.

Reader's Guide

Players must mimic the routine of an on-screen dancer to a chosen song, scoring points based on their accuracy. The game requires motion controllers: Wii Remotes on Wii and Wii U, PlayStation Move on PlayStation 3, a choice of either PlayStation Move or PlayStation Camera on PlayStation 4, and Kinect on Xbox 360 and Xbox One. Selected songs feature 'On Stage' modes with lead and backup dancers. The Xbox One version includes an alternate routine for 'Kiss You' that can be played by up to six players. Dance Crew routines are four players only on Xbox One. AutoDance records footage for upload. Karaoke allows singing along with connected microphones. Gold Moves in Mashups return after being absent from Just Dance 4. Online multiplayer uses a ghost data system and the World Dance Floor, where players compete simultaneously on the same song with 8 player parties (except Wii). Second screen features on Wii U, Xbox One, and Xbox 360 (via update) allow playlist management and 'Party Master' mode. The GamePad can record AutoDance footage and serve as a karaoke microphone. All online services were discontinued on 19 November 2018.
