Turkey! Time to Strike

Bowling and time travel collide in feudal Japan.

Last updated

Turkey! Time to Strike, also known in Japan as Turkey!, is an original Japanese anime television series that combines tenpin bowling with time travel. Produced by Tatsunoko Production under their Bakken Record label and Pony Canyon, it is set in the city of Chikuma, Nagano. The series aired from July to September 2025.

Plot

The five-member bowling club of Ikkokukan High School in Nagano Prefecture includes leader Mai Otonashi, first-year student Rina Godai, nervous Sayuri Ichinose, fashionable Nozomi Mitaka, and nerdy Nanase Nikaidō. During a match between Mai and Rina, lightning strikes a partially buried artifact at a nearby construction site, affecting Mai's bowling ball and dragging the club back in time to the Sengoku period. They are taken in by young samurai Suguri Tokura and attempt to return to the present by recreating the conditions that sent them back.

Characters

Mai Otonashi is the bowling club president and a highly skilled bowler since childhood, but every time she scores a turkey she immediately gets snake eyes, causing tournament eliminations. Rina Godai is the club's most skilled bowler who rivals Mai; she takes bowling seriously and often clashes with other members due to their lack of motivation. Sayuri Ichinose, a childhood friend of Mai, is shy and always throws gutterballs; she later befriends Suguri and learns Suguri is a woman. Nozomi Mitaka, another childhood friend, focuses on looks and popularity over bowling.

Nanase Nikaidō joined the club for academic opportunities and warns the group not to alter the past. Sumomo, a member of the Tokura family, plays a game similar to bowling and deduces the club is from the future; she is arranged to marry the Washio clan's leader. Akebi, Sumomo's twin sister, wears a mask outside and went into hiding to protect Sumomo from beliefs that twins bring misfortune. Suguri, Sumomo's older sister, poses as a man to protect her family.

Anzu, the youngest Tokura sister, is angry at the club members posing as performers but is later saved by Nozomi. Natsume, the eldest Tokura sister, left the family after meeting another man from the future. Haru is Mai's foster parent. Tamajyu is a fortune teller and retainer of Sakaki Kagetoki, a feudal lord pressuring the Tokuras.

Production and release

The series was animated by Bakken Record, directed by Susumu Kudo, and written by Naomi Hiruta, with Airi Takekawa as character designer, Yuki Hayashi composing the music, and Pony Canyon producing it. It aired from July 9 to September 24, 2025, on Nippon TV's AnichU block and other channels, and is released internationally on Crunchyroll. The opening theme is performed by Nagano Prefectural Ikkokukan High School Bowling Club, with episode 9's version by Daughters of the Tokura Family; the ending theme is performed by Taiyō to Odore, Tsukiyo ni Utae, replaced in several episodes by insert songs.
