The GranSazers

The GranSazers are descendants of warriors from an ancient human civilization, created to protect Earth from the Bosquito. Each GranSazer bears a glowing symbol on the back of their left hand, corresponding to their astrological sign, which can transform into a Knuckle-Riser. By setting the Knuckle-Riser to Transformation Mode, they equip high-powered suits, calling out Equip! to become GranSazers. The 12 members are split among four elements; when three of the same element gather and set their Knuckle-Risers to ChouSeiShin mode, they summon an Ultra Star God. One member can then set their Knuckle-Riser to Boarding Mode to Dive-In and pilot the machine, which can change into a giant folding robot, while the other two pilot Gran Vehicles. Each GranSazer can summon a unique weapon via Arms Mode, and when piloting a ChouSeiShin, they can equip a large version of that weapon by setting the Knuckle-Riser to Sazer-Gear Mode. Communication between Sazers uses Communication Mode. A combination attack called Formation Zero involves six GranSazers performing a sandwich jump kick on the enemy. The Flame Tribe, the first to recognize the alien threat and the second fully assembled, wear bird-shaped red armour and pilot Flame-Driver Grand Vehicles. This tribe uniquely has two members—Tarious and Lion—who can use Sazer Gear Mode on Garuda, whereas other tribes only allow their leader to do so.

Allies

Professor Ichiro Horiguchi, a space archaeologist known for his scientific work, uncovered the secrets of the Gransazers, the Chou Seishin, and the Gransazer War by studying ancient crystals. His assistant Mika awakened as Sazer Mithras, and later Ken and Tenma also became Gransazers. Horiguchi provides the Sazers with guidance and intelligence. Atsushi Misonogi, a bureaucrat who secretly funded Horiguchi’s research, is later revealed as the head of the Department of National Defense. He initially used Horiguchi to locate the Gransazers for his country, but after witnessing the alien threat, he chose to aid them. Masaki Wakui, Ai Uozumi’s father, known to her only as Dr. Bear during her childhood, headed the team that repaired the Guntroller. Souichiro Okita commands a strike team that helps the Sazers in combat and operates the robot Yuuhi through a special headpiece. Jado, a Stonian from Planet Stone, was sent by Warp Monarch to attack Earth using the Mad Stone, a plutonium bomb left on the planet long ago. Unwilling to see Earth destroyed, Jado took over the body of Takumi Kawashima, a college friend of Ryouko who died traveling from Africa. Keeping his host alive weakens Jado. Freedo, an intergalactic officer from Planet Ajante, was tasked with killing Kriminal to avenge his partner. Mortally wounded, Freedo entered the body of Jin’s friend Shinji Nakao to continue his mission, forcing Jin to work with him to protect Shinji.

Warp Monarch

The Cosmic Alliance Warp Monarch is an interstellar monarchy controlling various planets. Some 400 million years ago, Warp Monarch destroyed Earth's ancient civilization because the Bosquito was running rampant on it. Belzeus claims humans are descended from the Bosquito and uses the Gransazers to encourage Warp Monarch to finish the global genocide. The Akelon race, the first alien menace to battle the Gransazers, can stretch their arms, move at super speed, and shoot lightning blasts. Their greatest strength is the Crystal Lens, which can heal or revive an Akelon or transform it into an Akelon Nova-Beast. An Akelon impersonated the deceased physicist Karin Saeki upon her arrival on Earth two decades ago to survive in the atmosphere. Acting as a guide to the Wind Tribe, she convinced them the other Sazers were a threat and must be destroyed, building a relationship with Akira to ensure his loyalty. While overseeing Remls attacking his teammates, Karin fights Tarious until the Wind Tribe sees the explosion; Akira sees Karin as she really is, and she admits she fell in love with him, offering to spare his life. Despite his love for her, Remls kills her by knocking her off a building to save Tarious. However, she revived before her body could be autopsied, went to Ryujin Mountain, summoned her UFO to heal, then attacked Sazer Tawlon, severely wounding him. After being manhandled by the Fire Tribe, Karin assumed her Nova-Beast form and destroyed the city; Garuda and Dolcruz were summoned to fight her. Though she had the upper hand, she retreated to heal burn injuries, taking Akira into the beast for one last chance to join her. After Remls broke free from her body, the assembled Gransazers destroyed her UFO, and she was destroyed by the three Chouseishin.

ChouSeiShin

The ChouSeiShin, or Ultra Star Gods, are the most powerful weapons of the ancient Earth Civilization, remaining dormant until the GranSazers awakened and reactivated them. Each tribe possesses one ChouSeiShin, summoned when all three members set their Knuckle-Risers to ChouSeiShin Mode. One member can then Dive In by setting their Knuckle-Riser to Boarding Mode, and by setting it to Sazer Gear Mode, they equip the machine with a giant version of their personal weapon. Each ChouSeiShin has two modes: Live Mode, resembling animals with high maneuverability, and Warrior Mode, a bipedal mecha with immense attacking power but reduced speed. Garuda, the Flame Tribe's ChouSeiShin, was the second awakened, from Hōō Mountain. In Live Mode, Garuda is shaped like a phoenix, attacks with guns under its wings, and can tackle enemies engulfed in flames. In Warrior Mode, it uses Garu Claw talons on its fists for close combat and performs the finishing move Fire Bird Slash; it can also summon a sword called Burning Saber. Tarious' Sazer Gear equips Garuda with a giant Falcon Bow, and Lion's Sazer Gear equips it with giant Double Crescents. Dorcrus, the Wind Tribe's ChouSeiShin, was the first awakened, from Kabuto Mountain. In Live Mode, it is shaped like a European rhinoceros beetle and attacks with cannons and full tackles. In Warrior Mode, it uses its array of cannons and blasters, with the finishing move Herakles Hurricane firing all simultaneously. Remls' Sazer Gear equips Dorcrus with a giant Iron Gale on its head, as Dolcruz lacks proper hands. GunCaesar, the Earth Tribe's ChouSeiShin, was the third awakened, from the Shishioh Desert. In Live Mode, it is shaped like a liger and attacks with cannons and claws.
