Plot

The story takes place in a world where Butei—licensed armed detectives—are trained to combat rising crime. Kinji Tōyama, a student at Tokyo Butei High, plans to quit the academy but is attacked by the Butei Killer. He is rescued by elite Assault prodigy Aria H. Kanzaki, altering his future as a Butei. The spin-off Aria the Scarlet Ammo AA follows E-ranked Akari Mamiya as she seeks to become Aria's Amica.

Characters

Kinji Tōyama is a student at Butei High initially ranked E due to a missed exam. He possesses Hysteria Mode, a genetic trait activated by sexual arousal that boosts his cognitive and physical abilities to about thirty times normal, granting near-superhuman feats. In this state he cannot directly harm women and develops a suave demeanor. He was formerly an S-ranked Assault prodigy and now belongs to the Inquesta department. Over the series he develops romantic feelings for Aria, and kissing her in episode 5 activates Hysteria Mode. He wields a modified Beretta 92F (three-round burst), a butterfly knife, and later a modified black Desert Eagle and a double-edged seax belonging to Sherlock Holmes. In Hysteria Mode he dual-wields both guns and both blades, earning the title Quadra of Mimicry. Aria Holmes Kanzaki is an elite Butei Assault prodigy who rescues Kinji from the Butei Killer.
