The series follows five young warriors from an ancient civilization of dinosaur-evolved humans, awakened after 170 million years of suspended animation when their enemy Bandora the Witch is released from a magical container on Planet Nemesis by two astronauts. The Zyurangers summon the power of mechanical-looking deities called Guardian Beasts, each modeled after a prehistoric beast, to protect mankind. A sixth warrior, Burai the Dragon Ranger, later becomes involved in the conflict. The cast includes Yūta Mochizuki, Seiju Umon, Hideki Fujiwara, Takumi Hashimoto, Reiko Chiba, Shiro Izumi, Machiko Soga, Ami Kawai, and Jun Tatara.

Reader's Guide

Kyōryū Sentai Zyuranger holds a significant place in tokusatsu history as the first Super Sentai series to be adapted into the American Power Rangers franchise, with its costumes and footage used across all three seasons of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. The Dragon Ranger costume became the Green Ranger. The series introduced the concept of sentient, living mecha, which became a recurring element in later Super Sentai series. It was also the first to feature a regular Sixth Ranger. In 2014, cast members reprised their roles for the film Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger vs. Go-Busters: The Great Dinosaur Battle! Farewell Our Eternal Friends. The series was released on DVD in North America by Shout! Factory in 2015, the first Super Sentai series to receive such a release. Its international distribution was limited, with many regions receiving dubs of the American adaptation instead.

Did You Know?

• The first regular Sixth Ranger in Super Sentai was Big One in Himitsu Sentai Gorenger, not Dragon Ranger in Zyuranger.
• Footage from Zyuranger episodes 1–40 was used for Season 1 of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers; episodes 41–50 were used in Season 2.
• The title Toei gives this series for international distribution is Galaxy Rangers.
